Philosophy of Language

This is a full-time tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor in Philosophy, with an expected start date of September 1st, 2027. Courseload is 4 courses/year spread over 3 quarters (e.g., 2-2-0), undergraduate and graduate. Duties include thesis supervision and usual non-teaching duties. Area of Specialization: Philosophy of Language. Area of Competence: Open. Salary competitive. Applicants must have earned a Ph. D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research in and teaching of Philosophy of Language. We are especially interested in scholars whose research interests mesh with those of the present faculty and who will contribute to the department's active role in interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives.

 

Candidates should submit a letter of application, a complete CV, three letters of recommendation, proof of teaching excellence, and a writing sample. Salary

The expected base pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000.

This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation.

Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
