Brady Program in Ethics and Civic Life

Students in the Brady Program were delighted to study and work with Professor Anne Eaton, visiting for the 2019-20 year and on leave from the University of Illinois-Chicago.  Professor Eaton taught the Spring 2020 sophomore seminar (“The Good Society”), and participated in many of the Brady Program teas and social events.

Our academic year was disrupted by the pandemic, but many of the elements of the Program could move ahead remotely.  The senior class completed most elements of its community service project before the campus was closed in March.  They were able to make significant contributions to the migrant community in Evanston.  The sophomore class met on Zoom to move ahead with its selection of a community service project.  Some gatherings had to be cancelled, unfortunately. The lecture that was to have been given by Professor Eaton will be rescheduled. Plans are under way for a conference that will bring graduates of the Brady Program back to campus, but that is now set for 2022 rather than 2021, as we had hoped.

As this newsletter went to press, The Brady Program was moving ahead in its search for a post-doctoral fellow for the 2020-21 academic year.  The individual we select will teach one of the Brady sophomore seminars and will play an active role in many of the other components of the Program.
