Gabriel Schat
Graduate Student

Gabriel works on metaphysical and epistemological issues in Kant, Hegel, and, especially, Marx as well as on contemporary process ontology. His present project puts forward a process-theoretic reading of Marx and his philosophical inheritances. Gabriel has side interests in psychoanalysis, aesthetics, and in Russian philosophy and thought traditions from the Soviet and contemporary eras. More generally, Gabriel is enthusiastic about topics, figures, and traditions that are under-studied or marginalized within American academia and believes in supporting intellectual diversity in academia.
Outside of philosophy Gabriel is an avid judoka and enjoys tinkering with old European cars. He is also the Assistant Chair of Ayers College of Commerce and Industry at Northwestern.
