Joshua Kissel

Graduate Student

Joshua Kissel defended his dissertation in philosophy at Northwestern University in October. His specialization is in political theory and ethics as evidenced by his dissertation where he defends an account of social freedom and then outlines three social ideals—exit, democracy, and egalitarian informal norms—that would promote freedom’s widespread realization. He presently teaches philosophy and religious studies at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. When not doing philosophy, Josh enjoys eating vegan junk food, working out, playing games, and travelling the world. He is also keen on making this place a little nicer for all of us which motivates his participation in the Effective Altruism movement and political organizing more broadly.
